This 16mm steel shaft is made of hardened C45 steel. In conjunction with an appropriate bearing and supports it would make for an ideal linear slide or track to guide anything from a camera to an xy table. Being hollow this shaft will be a bit stiffer (doesn’t have as much of it’s own weight to contend with) and quite a bit lighter.
